Ken C. Wood, Arranger, Resident Composer
Ken C. Wood is a native resident of Rochester, New York. He began his playing career in 1966 and performed his first public solo at age the age of 8. During his public school years, he participated in District and All-State Bands and was selected, in his Senior year, to represent New York State in the National High School Honors Band under the direction of Dr. William D. Revelli. Mr. Wood is a recipient of the John Phillip Sousa Award and has studied privately at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York,
In 1976, Mr. Wood enlisted in the United States Army as a Bandsman. He attended the U.S. School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia and graduated in May of 1977. He was then assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division Band at Ft. Hood, Texas where he completed his tour of duty in November, 1979.While stationed at Ft. Hood, Mr. Wood becamemember of the Heights Concert Band, and has been Euphonium Soloist with this adult, civilian band since 1977. His active repertiore includes over 80 major solos for the euphonium and he has made over 100 solo appearances with high school, military and municipal bands.
In 1982 he recorded a solo album accompaniment by a band made up of professional musicians from the Washington, D.C. area. This album was recorded in the Queen Anne Auditorium of the Prince Georges Community College, Prince Georges County, Maryland. The eight selections were rehearsed and recorded in one five hour session. It was remastered digitally for release on CD in December, 1999.
After his military service ended, Ken eventually became a partner in The Band Room music store which is primarily involved in service to school bands. It is in this venue that he has pursued his composing and publishing activities. As a charter user of Finale music writing software, Ken is considered the local expert in the use of inale for band music. He has published over twenty pieces, including original compositions, commissioned works and special arrangements of other works.
In addition to the print music activities, Ken also does digital audio editing and CD production. Because The Band Room specializes in serving the needs of music education, he is much sought after to solve problems for band directors and their staff. This includes preparing band Contest tapes for submission to All-State judging and editing special performances recordings for the Color Guard and Drill Team Groups.
Along with performing, composing and publishing, Ken Wood is an expert band instrument repair technician with over twenty years experience in all aspects of instrument repair.
